PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT IN THE ANTIOCH RIVERTOWN DISTRICT

The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to host the Third Annual Rivertown Plein Air Paint Out on September 8th, 2007 at the Lynn House Gallery, located in the Rivertown District, downtown Antioch.   Participating artists will have from 10 AM Friday, September 7th, until 3 PM on Saturday, September 8th, to create paintings in “plein air”, a French term for “outside in the plain air”, in the Rivertown District and nearby areas. There will be a total of $600.00 offered in cash prizes to artists. Exhibit dates are: September 8 - September 29, 2007.

The public is encouraged to come out on Saturday, September 8th, to watch the artists as they paint and view the final artworks which will be available for viewing and purchase at the free Artist’s Reception that begins at 4:00 PM at the Lynn House Gallery.

In partnership with the City of Antioch and the Rivertown Merchants 2nd Saturday Event, the artist reception will also feature live jazz music from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, a silent auction, and a “What’s Cooking in Rivertown?” live cooking demonstration which begins at 4:30 PM.

The Lynn House Gallery address is 809 First Street, Downtown Antioch, CA 94509, gallery hours are Thurs-Sat, Noon - 5 pm during exhibits.


PARTICIPATING ARTIST INFORMATION

Artist check-in time is Friday, September 7 from 10 am - noon at the Lynn House Gallery (809 West First Street).  Due to the size of the Lynn House Gallery, artists may submit up to two paintings and may be limited to one, depending on number of artist participants. More information will be provided during check-in. ARTIST PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT IS OPEN TO REGISTERED ARTISTS ONLY (SEE LIST AT RIGHT).

Please submit paintings completed on
Friday from
noon - 4 pm.  For works created on Saturday, September 8th from 10 am to 3 pm, please submit paintings as you create them, do not wait until 3 pm on Saturday to submit all your work. All work must be wired for hanging. On Friday everyone is free to paint in the historic Rivertown District or nearby East Contra Costa areas. On Saturday, please paint exclusively in the Rivertown area so the viewing public can better enjoy the event.

The exhibit dates are: September 8 - September 29, 2007.  The reception will be on Saturday, September 8 from 4 - 6 pm.  The awards ceremony will be at 5 pm.

There are three prize levels:

  • First Place: $300

  • Second Place: $200

  • Third Place: $100

The artist reception includes light refreshments, jazz music and a live cooking demonstration by Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association from 4:30 - 5 pm, as well downtown Rivertown merchants hosting sales & events. Click here for more information.

This year, in order to encourage viewer participation and sales, we are offering a silent auction. Artist participation in the auction is optional. The commission rate for sales from the auction or from standard sales is 70% for the artist and 30% for the Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch. You can also submit work that is not for sale.

All unsold work is to be picked up at the Lynn House Gallery on Saturday, September 29th from 5 - 7 pm.

The Lynn House Gallery is located in the Rivertown District at 809 W. 1st Street in Antioch (across from the Amtrak Train Station) and is open during exhibits from 12 noon – 5 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and admission is free.
